Proposed Research Topic:
A TV Ident is used for a whole variety of things that range from portraying the channels ethos to marketing benefits, these Idents are a massive contribution when it comes to bringing new viewers and keeping the original viewers in the first place. Another main purpose of an Ident is to inform the viewers of what sort of channel they are watching, by watching these Idents the viewers will get to see what sort of content is shown on that channel and they will learn this by looking at how the Ident is presented. An example of this would be for something such as a kids TV channel by the name of CBBC, this channels target audience ranges from children of the ages from 6-12 years old. Due to the target audience of this channel being aimed at people who are quite young the Idents are kept simple in order not to confuse them and the Idents are upbeat, colourful and also in some cases educational.
Purposes:
We will be designing an ident for BBC One and it will feature there well known circle theme, the ident we design will fit in with the other idents made by this channel but it will still have its own unique design that will attract the intended target audience and it will portray the channels ethos and desired message. We will do research to find out what kind of content we will need in the ident in order to appeal to the desired audience.
Background:
The proposed research will allow me to have a clear understanding of what sort of Ident would be perfect for my intended target audience. Once we have come up with a rough idea of an Ident we will give it to a focus group of people who are around the target audience age and we will see what sort of feedback we get. Due to BBC One having a reoccurring theme of circles we will try and involve a circle of some sort into our Ident and this will be a familiar and recognisable sight for people who have followed this channel for a long time. It will also appeal to new viewers and it helps to show the ethos of the BBC.
Scope:
The majority of my time will be spent doing research, which will allow me to see the main audience and what sort of content they will want to see within this Ident. I can do this research by doing questionnaires with people of that target audience; this will give me valuable information when it comes to finding out what sort of content I will need to include in my ident. I will also do surveys in which I could hand out to the public and see what they think of my ideas this will give me a wide range of information. I will finally conduct an interview between variety of participants as well as focus groups to gain reliable and qualitative data.
Method:
I will make surveys and questionaries’ in which I will use to gather information from the public and this will allow me to have a strong idea of what sort of content the public want when it comes to an Ident for a channel as popular as BBC One. I will also use a focus group of people and get their feedback and ideas; I will then incorporate these ideas into my Ident. I can also use online research and look at other Idents from BBC One and look at what was good about them and what wasn’t so good about the Idents. After gathering all of this information I will combine it and make a few ideas for Idents I will then go out and show them to people and see what they think. With the final bit of feedback I will finalise my Ident.

Limitations:
The main limitation we have is with research as some content may be copyrighted.
A limitation is gender, as there is more males than females so then more of the answers will be from a male perspective, and the BBC target audience is both genders. We will overcome this, by including other females outside of the class we are in so that we get a even amount of both males and females.
Another limitation is age, as we are limited to different ages in school which don't link to the BBC target audience. We will overcome this by using some teachers and older and younger people so there is a range of ages.
We don't work for the BBC which is another limitation, as we don't have the technology, skills set to research resources that they have at the bbc, so our research won't be as good as theirs.
